Turkish Star is a company that was born out of two loves: The love for our own people, the Turks; and the love for their handcrafted products.
Turkey’s culture and history stretches back to the Ottoman Empire of 1290 and its people at present are spread from Bulgaria to Western China. Their ancient culture is still vividly seen in the rural villages where life is simple and family forms the strongest social bonds. This is where our roots lie and where our crafts are made.
We strive to not only bring you the highest quality traditionally handmade carpets from Turkey to adorn your home, but hopefully a little of the heart of the people. In the spring months the villagers shear the sheep, spin and wash the wool. Plants, roots and flowers are collected or grown to be later boiled into the dye that gives these rugs their unique vivid colors. Designs are made with traditional symbols and patterns to make each carpet totally unique. Depending on the size a carpet it can take several months to complete, since each knot is handmade.
Turkish Star has partnered with the fine arts professors in Turkey. Each carpet therefore has a certificate of quality and authenticity that states where the rug was made and by whom.
Turkish ceramic vases and plates, and silk products made in the rural villages now also form part of the products we make available to you.
We have three aims in this company:
1. Bring an affordable treasure to you
2. Provide work for the local villagers
3. Give back to the people by using profits for further job creation projects in Turkey
